School vaccinations

Children and Family Health Surrey Immunisation team is responsible for the planning and delivery of the school-age immunisation programmes in Surrey.

To help protect against infectious diseases, the NHS offers a range of vaccinations at different stages in a person's life and development. Routine vaccinations are offered free of charge on the NHS to all eligible children and young people in the UK.

Babies and pre-school aged children will be offered routine vaccinations through their GP surgery. School-age immunisations are usually given in schools, but can also be offered in other community settings depending on the needs of the child or young person.

If your child is being educated at home, they are still entitled to receive vaccinations that are usually given in schools.

You can find more information about which vaccinations to have and when to have them on the NHS website.

Children being educated in schools

Schools will contact parents and carers ahead of scheduled vaccinations, asking that they complete an e-consent form for their child's vaccination.

Parents and carers can complete an e-consent form on the Children and Family Health Surrey Child Immunisation service website, using the school code supplied by their child's school.

Children being educated at home

Parents and carers of children who are being educated at home can also complete an e-consent form on the Children and Family Health Surrey Child Immunisation service website.

Parents and carers should contact their local immunisation team for the correct school code and for more information about how to arrange their child's immunisation. Consent can also be given verbally.

Concerns about vaccinations

If you or your child are worried about any aspect of vaccination or the immunisation process, please contact your local immunisation team.

The team can advise and support in cases in which a child or young person is needle phobic, highly anxious or has another concern relating to receiving vaccinations.
